I Decided To Get Her Attention
For the next several minutes, I sat there trying to breathe through my frustration. I had been polite. I had asked nicely. I had given both of them a chance to stop before things became uncomfortable. But the boy kept kicking, and the mother kept ignoring it. I knew I could not sit through five more hours with my seat being hit over and over again.
So I called the flight attendant and asked for a cup of cold water. When she handed it to me, I held it carefully and waited. A few seconds later, the next kick came. I jolted forward, just enough for the cup to tip back over my shoulder. The water splashed into the row behind me, cold enough to make both the mother and her son react immediately. Her magazine dropped, the boy gasped, and for the first time since boarding, his feet stopped moving.
